The Joint Team of the Fundamental Industry Training Center Won the Best Paper Award at the 17th ICCSE

From August 18 to 21, the 17th IEEE International Conference on Computer Science & Education (IEEE ICCSE 2022) was held in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. The joint industry-university team composed of Professor Li Shuangshou from the Fundamental Industry Training Center of Tsinghua University and others formulated the paper "One Case of THOUGHT: Industry-University Converged Education Practice on Open Source" based on teaching practices. This paper won the Best Paper Award at IEEE ICCSE 2022.

During this conference, experts, scholars, teachers, and students from 183 institutions of higher learning in China, the United States, Australia, Germany, Italy, Thailand, India, and Japan participated in online and in-person academic exchanges. The conference received a total of 685 submissions, and 8 best paper candidates were nominated. After an in-person defense, 3 Best Paper Awards and 4 Best Paper Nomination Awards were selected.

As the co-chairman of the THOUGHT (innovaTive Hub for the cO-development of indUstry and hiGHer educaTion) community, Li Shuangshou led the Tsinghua inter-departmental team to cooperate with leading enterprises outside the university, achieving a series of innovative results. This award-winning paper used the innovative course "Fundamentals and Applications of Distributed Data Systems" as an example to present an innovative method for general training on Big Data and Artificial Intelligence and practice-based engineering teaching. By using the university-led industry-university innovation community THOUGHT as a base, they developed cooperative courses, which is an effective exploration of the objectives, content, formats, and methods of practice-based teaching. In addition, they designed a comprehensive training program with reference to real-world problems from cutting-edge industry fields and research hotspots to test the effectiveness of practice-based teaching. By relying on the cloud platform provided in the practice-based teaching facilities of the Fundamental Industry Training Center for the development of course resources, it allows for practice-based teaching both online and offline.

Predicting the Growth Rate of POIs in Cities (example of a comprehensive training project in the course)

The Fundamental Industry Training Center (iCenter) is the largest practice-based engineering teaching platform at Tsinghua University. The Training Center has always worked to practice the "three-in-one" educational philosophy of forming values, developing capabilities, and sharing knowledge, actively exchange and cooperate with various departments, actively incorporate enterprise resources, explore new theories and methods of practice-based engineering teaching, comprehensively build an engineering practice and innovation teaching system adapted to the elite talent training model, and build a learning center for engineering practice, innovation and entrepreneurship that holds a leading position in China and the world. Our aim is to fully leverage the potential of high-quality resources in student training.

The IEEE ICCSE conference started in 2006 and was held in Singapore, Melbourne (Australia), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Vancouver (Canada), Cambridge (UK), Nagoya (Japan), Houston (USA), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Toronto (Canada), Delft (Netherlands), and Lancaster (UK) before returning to China. It is a renowned international conference on computer education and computer science research. IEEE ICCSE 2022 focused on cutting-edge issues in computer science and education, and practiced the development philosophy of innovation, openness, and sharing. Focusing on the theme of "Fast-Evolving Digital Literacy and Skills", conference participants discussed new methods for integrated and interdisciplinary computer science and education practices. This conference was hosted by the Computer Education Research Association of Chinese Universities (national level 1 incorporated association) and organized by Zhejiang University and Ningbo University of Technology, with technical support from the IEEE Education Association.
