5. The Central Force in the Battle Against the Epidemic

In May, in the face of the severe and complex epidemic prevention and control situation in Beijing, the 20 teaching staff of the Training Center at Beijing Bailie University (hereinafter referred to as “Bailie”) strictly implemented the deployment requirements of relevant epidemic prevention and control work, fulfilled their personal epidemic prevention obligations, and actively participated in the epidemic prevention work of Bailie School while ensuring their own epidemic prevention safety and teaching work, interpreting the responsibility of Tsinghua people with practical actions.

The temporary Party group during the lockdown period in Bailie College

On May 12th, the control level of Bailie College was upgraded, and the 20 teaching staff of the Training Center were in the control area and completely isolated from the outside world. On May 14th, after the joint meeting of the Party and administrative leadership of the Training Center was studied and decided, during the lockdown period, a temporary Party group during the lockdown period in Bailie (hereinafter referred to as the “Temporary Party Group”) was established. On the evening of the 14th, the Training Center held an online meeting to establish the Temporary Party Group. At the meeting, Tang Bin, secretary of the General Party Branch of the Training Center, proposed that each Party member should give full play to the vanguard and leading role of Party members during the special period, actively participate in the epidemic prevention and control work of Bailie School while doing a good job in the work of employees.

Assit in information collection, supply distribution, and other work

The Temporary Party Group acted upon orders, faced difficulties head-on, and consciously fulfilled its responsibilities. It formulated emergency response plans for various possible problems, first ensuring the personal safety of each teaching staff living in Bailie; in addition, the Temporary Party Group actively paid attention to and closely cooperated with the work of the epidemic prevention and control leading group of Bailie, and organized Party members and employees to serve as volunteers for epidemic prevention work and participate in various guarantee work for epidemic prevention and control of Bailie College under the premise of not affecting teaching work. The figures bustling around in Bailie College always demonstrated the competence and responsibility of Tsinghua people.

On May 14th, to implement the epidemic prevention policy requirements of Beijing, the school’s epidemic prevention and control leading group decided to strictly close the school gate. Except for epidemic prevention and control and supply guarantee personnel, other personnel were not allowed to enter or leave, which brought great challenges to the practical teaching of the Training Center. And Li Rui, executive director of the Mechanical Manufacturing Laboratory of the Training Center and the on-campus safety management cadre, was also called the “all-round teacher.”

Learning operations with the technical director online

During the school closure period, in addition to completing the various inspection and reporting work arranged by the school, Li Rui also needed to tidy up the classrooms, prepare teaching materials and equipment, and help various courses complete the processing of various parts. Even in the technical fields he had never been involved in, Li Rui also actively learned remotely with the technical person in charge through online means and finally completed the part processing of all courses, ensuring the smooth completion of all practical courses in the center.

6. Flipped Classroom “2.0” | The True “Flipping” Brought by the Online and Offline Integrated Practical Teaching of the Training Center

In the spring semester of 2022, the Training Center offered multiple practical courses. Among them, the three courses of “Manufacturing Engineering Experience,” “Handmade Innovation Practice,” and “Manufacturing Engineering Practice” had a total of 481 students enrolled. The course works had entered the final assembly and debugging stage after the previous design and production stages and urgently needed the specific guidance and close cooperation of front-line teachers.

On May 14th, in accordance with the changes in the epidemic prevention and control situation in Beijing and the notice requirements of our school on conducting course teaching online, all practical teaching work in the training center was adjusted to be carried out in an online and offline integrated manner. This time, the teachers conducted teaching online, and students completed the work on-site. Through opening up teaching venues to ensure students’ offline learning; coordinating online and offline to ensure the safety of practical operations; integrating multiple models to ensure the same quality and effectiveness of teaching, a special form of “flipped classroom” was realized
