In May 19, 2018, Professor Arvind Gupta, the thirteenth president of the University of British Columbia (University of British Columbia, UBC), and President of the China Private Technology Promotion Association, Ma Yanmin, went to the Tsinghua University Fundamental Industry Training Center for a visit and academic exchange.

Li Shuangshou, director of the Fundamental Industry Training Center of Tsinghua University, introduced the history, characteristics and future development direction of the center to Professor Arvind Gupta. The Tsinghua Fundamental Industry Training Center, with the core concept of “innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship”, has set up the goal of “engineering education, innovation education, general education and social service”. The center is not only an advanced manufacturing engineering training base and an open innovation and entrepreneurial support platform, but also is responsible for the training of excellent engineers and innovative talents. It has also developed into a base for engineering culture quality education and a high level scientific research transformation and service platform, playing the role of social service radiation. Director Li Shuangshou and Huang Desheng, Secretary General of the association of veteran scientists and technicians of Tsinghua University, accompanied professor Arvind Gupta to visit the center. Professor Arvind Gupta highly praised the center’s innovative ideas, advanced facilities and innovative attempts in the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.

Xie Yuanxi, the director of innovation and technology department of the Chinese Academy of science and technology, aimed at the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and high end innovation. The training of talents is proposed, and Professor Arvind Gupta also focuses on the opportunities and challenges of Canadian innovation and development, and both sides have made in-depth exchanges on possible cooperation areas.
