From September 16 to 18, the 2021 National Grand Finals of the China National Undergraduate Engineering Practice and Innovation Ability Competition was held at the Comprehensive Sports Center of Tsinghua University. This event was sponsored by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, organized by the Engineering Training and Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, undertaken by Tsinghua University, and carried out by the Fundamental Industry Training Center. Guo Dongming, Chairman of the Engineering Training and Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, Director of the Competition Organizing Committee, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and President of Dalian University of Technology, Yang Bin, Vice President and Provost of Tsinghua University, and Fan Hailin, Deputy Director of the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education attended the opening ceremony and gave speeches. Also present at the opening ceremony were Fan Xinyan, Deputy Director of the Second Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Yu Yingyu, Director of the Academic Affairs Office of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's Department of Personnel and Education.

In total, more than 400 people attended the opening ceremony, including relevant leaders from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, representatives of various science and engineering teaching steering committees of the Ministry of Education, experts from special committees of the Competition Organizing Committee, college and university leaders from across the country, special guests, media representatives, and teams participating in the Beijing events. Presiding over the opening ceremony was Li Shuangshou, Deputy Director of the Engineering Training and Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education and director of Tsinghua's Fundamental Industry Training Center. The grand finals consisted of eight events divided into three tracks. More than 1,500 students in 427 teams participated in the competition, which was judged by 460 referees. The students represented 205 colleges and universities and came from 32 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions, and special administrative regions across the country. The competition was held simultaneously at 26 separate sites.
